Autosaves in some games are not stable. Same applies to quick saves. Take skyrim for example, where an autosave or quick save basically takes a snapshot of the game, but does not pause any running scripts. Reloading the save could (although extremely rarely unless you mod) break the save. A normal save "pauses" running scripts and as such reloads much cleaner. Autosaves are a fucking joke yes.

Auto saves are useful when you realized you did some stupid shit then saved manually, and the only way to salvage the game is reload earlier autosave.

When you grew up without the 'autosave' function, it's in your head. And when you have kids, it's better to save manually. Because otherwise those fuckers are fucking up your fuckin autosave and you want to fuck those kids up, because they ruined your 200+ days progress just by spending all your money and selling all your epic weapons
