Clickbaity headline, but the article itself is sound. Researchers were able to stabilize a fusion reaction for 5 microseconds using a technique that has primarily been abandoned as unworkable. Although this is a very short time, it is *much* than it would have lasted without the Z-pinch technique, and much closer to the larger Tokomak and Stellerator plants in testing today than this simple technique has achieved before. While it is not a "fusion power is happening tomorrow!" breakthrough, it is still a huge step forward in contained fusion research.

I wonder if we ever have fusion based power plants. Fusion makes a lot of power, and works neatly in stars, but the problem is that the pressure you need for it is provided by gravity there, but in a power plant, you need to feed it energy to maintain that pressure, plus, you need a container that can withstand all that heat and pressure for years. I have some doubts that we will solve it in my lifetime, even though it would be awesome
